Forward Booking Annual/Semi-Annual Checkups is a Best Practice for Your Practice.

Forward Booking is scheduling ALL patients’ next appointments before they leave your practice, regardless of the reason for their current visit. Many veterinary practices do a great job of this when it comes to medical rechecks. However, the veterinary profession falls short when it comes to forward booking preventive healthcare checkups. According to the 2014 Veterinary Hospital Managers Association Insiders’ Insights Report and the 2013 American Animal Hospital Association State of the Industry Report, less than 3% of practices “always” forward book annual or semi-annual exams.

Why does this matter for healthy pets? Forward booking preventive healthcare appointments results in the following:
  • Healthier pets and healthier practices
  • Pet owner convenience
  • Improved patient care
  • A better bond between pet owner and practice
  • Team satisfaction
Forward booking increases the number of visits to your practice and allows pets to be seen on schedule. When you see patients at the right time, they can get the care they need and deserve. For instance, you can identify health issues earlier, check on heartworm/flea & tick preventive status, identify important changes in the pet’s household and educate pet owners about current topics that affect the health of their furry friend. It’s all about prevention!

Forward Booking

Many practices worry about client pushback to forward booking, but the 2015 American Animal Hospital Association State of the Industry Report stated 6 out of 10 pet owners “will readily say yes” to forward booking their pet’s annual or semi-annual checkups. Remember, clients are used to doing this for themselves, i.e. their dentist, doctor, hair stylist. Odds are, you didn’t leave your last dental cleaning without booking your next visit!
