‘Tis the season to forward book ALL of your patients’ appointments!

Happy holidays! We have a gift for you that will make your holiday season a whole lot merrier by making your appointment book a whole lot fuller!

Last January, a collaborative program was introduced between Partners for Healthy Pets and the Veterinary Medical Association Executives (VMAE) to implement the concept of forward booking in all veterinary practices in the U.S. and Canada. 48 veterinary medical associations officially pledged to promote the Ready. Set. Go! Forward Booking Campaign, and your VMA was likely on the list.

Forward Booking

We believed this initiative would have a significant impact on the health of patients and practices. It focused on the importance of forward booking, which simply means scheduling all patients’ next appointments before they leave your practice, regardless of the reason for their current visit. This includes medical progress exams and preventive healthcare exams. Many of you entered the initiative’s nationwide Forward Booking WORKS! Testimonial Contest, which captured practice success stories on how forward booking improved patient care by ensuring pets receive the quality of care they deserve at the right time. Check out your peers’ testimonials here!

Let us help YOU see more pets!

In the December monthly practice newsletter, our focus is on the importance of keeping patients fit, trim and healthy during the holiday season. You’ll find Facebook posts, tweets and copy for your practice website or newsletter that highlight why overindulging pets with food during the season is not a good idea!

How many of your clients know if a ten-pound cat ate just one ounce of cheddar cheese, it would be the same as if a person ate three and a half hamburgers? You and your team may know this fact, but your clients probably have no idea that those extra calories expand a waistline, putting a pet’s health at risk.

Use the social media and website content in the next section to educate your clients about the importance of keeping their pets at an ideal body weight with an appropriate body condition score. Your veterinary practice team members are the only ones who can accurately assess a patient’s health status and discuss the importance of preventive healthcare with their owners.

Which patients are due for their yearly checkup? Check your files then contact all of your clients you haven’t seen in over a year. You want to remind them to schedule their pet’s annual exam because a yearly checkup guarantees these pets are getting the highest quality of care.

Word for Word

Here are December’s Facebook posts, tweets and copy for your practice website that you can use “word for word”. They are designed to encourage your clients to schedule their pet’s yearly checkup with you.

Effective Team Meetings: The Key to Implementing Preventive Healthcare Guidelines

How do you organize a 28-member veterinary healthcare team to speak with one voice in implementing the AAHA-AVMA Preventive Healthcare Guidelines? “For our practice, the key was to conduct a series of effective team meetings to introduce the Guidelines and how our practice would use them,” says Bobbie Cotton, Practice Manager at the Animal Family Veterinary Care Center in Davenport, Iowa. “What we didn’t anticipate were the added benefits that came from the team-meeting experience.”
