Success Stories: Putting the Tools to Work in Your Practice

What are the most effective ways to communicate with pet owners so they embrace preventive healthcare?

Partners for Healthy Pets created a group of tools called “Words That Work” to help practices establish effective communication techniques between the healthcare team and pet owners. Through videos and role-play activities, the healthcare team can learn how to dialog with owners in a natural, positive way in various exam room scenarios. Sample topics include nutrition, dental care, the importance of physical exams, and heartworm disease. The tools also help to ensure the team communicates a consistent message on the practice’s preventive healthcare philosophy. This motivates clients to embrace the philosophy for their own pet family.

“We achieved greater client understanding of our preventive care recommendations by improving our communication skills,” says Dr. Elizabeth Alton of Green Mountain Animal Hospital in Burlington, Vermont. She credits the Partners for Healthy Pets online tools for several practice successes. To learn more, click here.
